Getting a heat map from ELERTS data in Mapline:
1.) On the EPICenter home page, mouse over “Reports” in the upper left side of the screen. From the dropdown, select “Search Reports”:
2.)In the resulting page, enter what date range you would like to include in the heat map. When you’re satisfied with your choices, click the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page.
3.) On the results page, click “CSV” to download an Excel file with your data included.
4.) Open the downloaded spreadsheet with the spreadsheet software of your choice. Add a new column to the end of the spreadsheet labeled “ STATE”.
5.) Under your “STATE” cell, enter the abbreviation for your state:
6.) Highlight your new cell with your state abbreviation in it.
- If on a Mac, hold the “command” key, press “c”, then let go of both keys.
- On Windows, hold the “control” key, press “c”, then let go of both keys.
7.) Highlight all cells beneath your state abbreviation:
- If on a Mac, hold the “command” key, press “v”, then let go of both keys.
- On Windows, hold the “control” key, press “v”, then let go of both keys.
Your result should look like this:
Make sure all cells have your state abbreviation in them, all the way to the bottom of the document.

- If on a Mac, hold the “command” key and press “a”, then let go of both keys.
- On Windows, hold the “control” key and press “a”, then let go of both keys.
Your entire file should be highlighted.
9.) Follow the instructions from Mapline here.
10.) In order to create a heat map you will need a paid account with Mapline. If you have a paid account, and want to view a heat map, click the grey button on Mapline beside your data set:
11.) In the resulting menu, click “Heat map” to reveal the heat map of your data.
